MARCO PALEARI_Desio, 1998

Marco Paleari attended the Art high school Modigliani in Giussano and he lives and works between Seregno and Milan. Paleari‘s works are painted drawings that present timeless scenes whose reworking takes images and settings from art history and personal memories. The scenography does not have a precise temporal location, the human silhouettes and objects appear on the canvas like bodies on a stage: artificial and in movement. The figures are literally traced from the silhouette of someone, or something that was really present at a certain time, in a certain place. The contours become volumes that slowly blossom through filling with colors and other shapes, while the spaces dedicated to the faces are reiterated self-portraits of the artist. Paleari has the impression that these figures can and do interact with the observer – starting from themselves – a bit like actors on stage with their audience: they are unable to see anything other than an indistinct mass to which address only fleetingly with one’s gaze. Paleari‘s recent works show an imagery of grotesque war made up of characters returning home or caught in the moment of contact with the enemy. An almost tragicomic scenario, an awkward, awkward staging, in which the actors only seem worried about the public’s gaze.
