Riccardo Sala aka Rikyboy studied at Art high school Pio XI in Desio, Monza e Brianza, continues his studies at Academy of Paintings in Nova Milanese, Monza e Brianza, and engraving and art printing at the Il Bisonte Foundation in Florence. Rikyboy is a visual artist whose pictorial process ranges from mural interventions to the study of copperplate engraving and musical interpretation. His poetics refers to images, hidden and nuanced, deriving from childhood memories and it is precisely nostalgia that becomes the protagonist of the artist’s imagination through a corollary of depictions of circus realities and rural views. In the first, where the circus is the protagonist of the story with its posters, flyers, banners and banners, the sign becomes graphic, with flat backgrounds and loud colours. The world of circus communication seems to preserve a rigorous aesthetic principle whose origins the artist maintains and enhances. On the contrary, in the second, the attention to the rural views leads the artist towards a different pictorial development, the sign is gestural, the brushstrokes are jagged, overlapping and frenetic. Rikyboy considers himself a voyeur of Brianza and the work Busc de Brianza confirms his self-definition: the corner of a forest painted in its most intimate silence and an image that only a distant and obsequious eye can describe and reproduce. In spring 2024 the itinerant Circo Rurale project was born, to discover the farmhouses and courtyards of Lombardy, a journey that seeks to enhance the spectacular nature of rural life in its current – often – decadence. The enchantment, which however is suspended in the places, is celebrated by Rikyboy with a circus tribute to the rural landscape.
